A recent law passed in Sacramento may ease the way for San Diego homeowners to add granny flats to their properties.  In the past, there were high fees for building secondary units, and parking requirements added to the headaches.  With the reduction of fees and possible elimination of the parking requirement, homeowners may look at the addition of a granny flat as a way to provide housing for extended family, or create an income source on their property.
